Longitude 131

Uluru, Northern Territory

The lodge is a line of 15 luxury tents set along the red dunes on the edge of Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park, each facing Uluru through full-height windows. There is also a two-bedroom Dune Pavilion with its own plunge pool, which looks at both Uluru and Kata Tjuta. Meals and sundowners happen in the main lodge, and there is a pool and Spa Kinara for the afternoons when it is too hot to do much.

Fly into Ayers Rock Airport, with direct flights from Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Cairns, and the lodge collects you. The included guided experiences cover a walk at the base of Uluru, Walpa Gorge at Kata Tjuta, sunset drinks facing the rock, Bruce Munro's Field of Light installation and a dinner under the stars. Dining on the Dune Top and scenic flights can be added. Two or three nights is enough to see the area properly before moving on to the coast or the reef.

Best for first-time visitors to Australia who want the outback done properly, and couples marking an occasion. The caveats: it is one of the most expensive stays in the country, there is a two-night minimum, and summer days are very hot. Plan around the closure from 25 January to 19 April 2027 for a refurbishment.

Longitude 131 is the best way to see Uluru and Kata Tjuta in comfort, with every tent looking straight at the rock and the guided outings, meals and drinks all included. It suits travelers who want the Red Centre as a two or three night highlight of a wider Australia trip, without the logistics.
