Everywhere Else covers trips outside my main regions. These are places I’d choose for the season and the setting rather than for how popular they are: the fjords of Norway, the deserts of Namibia, the islands of Indonesia, and the quieter corners of Europe and the Americas, from remote alpine villages to volcanic islands and rainforest interiors.

The planning works the same way as anywhere else: the right time of year, good local guides, a sensible pace, and places to stay that suit the setting without the crowds.

Why Plan With Me

Outside my core regions the work is the same: the right hotel or lodge, the right room, the right time of year, and a route that flows. I help you make those choices, book the hotels, airlines and local operators, and am your point of contact before and during the trip.

Wherever you travel, I choose properties and local operators that look after their surroundings and respect local culture. For Everywhere Else destinations, I favor stays with:

Low-impact operations in fragile or remote ecosystems
Real community involvement rather than staged tourism
Local ownership or conservation-minded management
Contributions to regional environmental projects

That applies everywhere from marine protected areas in the Pacific to alpine conservation zones in Europe.

Culture & Sights

Everywhere Else is for places I choose for the season and the setting. A few of the sights that anchor those trips:

Geirangerfjord and Nærøyfjord: two of Norway's west fjords, steep-sided and fed by waterfalls, listed together as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Bryggen, Bergen: the row of wooden Hanseatic merchant buildings on Bergen's harbor, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the usual gateway to the fjords.
Namib Sand Sea: the dunes of Sossusvlei and the dead camel thorn trees of Deadvlei in Namibia, part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Twyfelfontein: one of the largest groups of rock engravings in Africa, in Namibia's Damaraland, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Kolmanskop: an abandoned diamond-mining town near Lüderitz in Namibia, its houses slowly filling with sand.
Borobudur: the 9th-century Buddhist temple in central Java, the largest in the world and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Bali's rice terraces: the terraces of Jatiluwih and the subak water-temple system that irrigates them, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

For wildlife, the Komodo dragons of Komodo National Park in Indonesia and the desert-adapted elephants of Damaraland in Namibia stand out.

When to Go

Because Everywhere Else spans climates, hemispheres and ecosystems, the right season depends on what you want to do. I start with that question, then plan the trip around the best time to go. A few examples:

Northern Lights or Arctic wildlife: January–March
Mediterranean hiking & sailing: April–June, September–October
Japan cultural trips: March–May for blossoms, October–November for foliage
Middle Eastern desert adventures: October–April
Tropical island escapes: Dry seasons vary, generally December–April

For each trip I’ll go through the weather, wildlife, regional events and crowds, so your dates fit what you’re going for.
