Wild West Zambia: Victoria Falls, Kafue & Liuwa Plains

Wild West Zambia: Victoria Falls, Kafue & Liuwa Plains

Duration: 12 Days

Overview

A wilderness-lover’s dream: the spray and energy of Victoria Falls, the huge, lightly touristed Kafue National Park, and the wildly remote Liuwa Plain, famous for Africa’s second-largest wildebeest migration and extraordinary sense of space.

This is Zambia for travelers who value remoteness over “ticking off” every big name.

Day-By-Day Itinerary

Days 1–2 — Victoria Falls (Livingstone)

Arrive in Livingstone and transfer to your lodge on the Zambezi. Enjoy a guided walk to the Falls, a sunset cruise, or optional helicopter or rafting (seasonal). Use this time to decompress before heading deep into the wilderness.
Overnights: Royal Livingstone, Tongabezi, or Toka Leya

Days 3–5 — Kafue National Park

Fly into central Kafue or the Busanga region (season-dependent). Spend three days exploring one of Africa’s largest, least-touristed parks. Expect big skies, open savannas, lions, wild dogs, roan, sable, river activities (if on the Kafue River), and excellent birding.
Overnights: Ila Safari Lodge; Musekese; or Busanga Bush Camp/Shumba (Busanga Plains)

Days 6–9 — Liuwa Plain

Continue west by light aircraft to Liuwa Plain — a remote, pristine ecosystem with only a handful of vehicles across the entire park. Explore vast open plains, seasonal blue wildebeest migration, large hyena clans, cheetah, and dramatic skies. Perfect for photographers and wilderness purists.
Overnights: Time + Tide King Lewanika

Days 10–12 — Return via Lusaka or Livingstone & Depart

Fly back to Lusaka or Livingstone to connect with onward travel. Add a final night at Victoria Falls if preferred.
