The camp has five en-suite tents along the riverbank, each with an outdoor shower and a veranda, and a shared open-sided lounge, bar and dining area. It is run by WildPlaces Africa and sits in a low-use zone of the park that it now shares with Kulu Ora, the company's larger lodge, which opened in 2026. The camp is named for Ernest Hemingway, who crash-landed twice in this part of Uganda in 1954.
Days are spent on game drives in the concession and on night drives, which give the best chance of leopard. There are also guided walks, boat trips and fishing on the Nile, and a drive of about 90 minutes to the top of Murchison Falls. Expect buffalo, giraffe, hippo, crocodile, many antelope and lion, plus good birding along the river.
It suits couples and small groups who prefer a small camp to a large lodge, and it pairs well with gorilla and chimpanzee trekking elsewhere in Uganda. Guests must be 12 or older. The drier months, roughly December to February and June to September, are the easiest for game viewing. Getting there is a drive of five to six hours from Kampala, or a flight to Pakuba airstrip followed by a road transfer of about two hours.
