Zungulila

South Luangwa National Park

Zungulila sits above the Kapamba River floodplain near a natural spring, in one of the most remote parts of the Luangwa Valley. It has four Meru-style safari tents, each with a private verandah and an en-suite bathroom with an outdoor shower and bathtub, for a maximum of eight guests. The camp was refurbished in 2024. Power is solar, and the tents have standing fans rather than air conditioning.

Zungulila is known for walking safaris, and there are also day and night drives, sundowners and dinners by the fire. Elephant, buffalo and antelope cross the floodplain in front of camp. It is the furthest camp on The Bushcamp Company circuit, about three and a half hours from Mfuwe Lodge, so it works as the deep end of a bushcamp itinerary, with Kapamba on the same river as a natural partner.

Zungulila suits keen walkers and repeat visitors who want to be as far from other people as the valley allows. Children must be 12 or older. It is open from 15 May to 1 November. The long transfer means we would plan at least three nights here as part of a longer circuit, and anyone who wants a pool or air conditioning should look elsewhere.

Zungulila is the most remote of The Bushcamp Company's camps, set above the Kapamba River floodplain, and we recommend it for walking safaris in a very quiet part of the valley. It suits keen walkers and repeat visitors who want to be well away from other people.
