Xigera Safari Lodge

Moremi Game Reserve, Okavango Delta

Xigera has twelve air-conditioned suites raised above the forest floor, including a two-bedroom family suite, each with a deck over the floodplain. The main lodge has a library, a wine cellar, a pool, a gym and a wellness center, and it holds a large collection of contemporary African art. About a kilometer away is the Baobab, a raised sleep-out platform for a night under the stars at extra cost.

Mokoro and motorboat trips through the lagoons are the main draw while the flood is in, alongside morning and afternoon game drives. Lions are seen regularly, along with leopard, wild dog, elephant, hippo and sitatunga. Because it is inside Moremi, there are no night drives. It slots into a Botswana trip as the water camp, followed by a drier game-drive camp.

Xigera suits couples, design lovers and birders who want comfort and time on the water. Big-game density is lower than at the best land camps, so pair it with one. Water activities are reduced from about September to April. Children under 12 are not accepted, and walks and mokoro trips have a minimum age of 13.

Xigera Safari Lodge belongs to the Red Carnation Hotel Collection and stands on an island in Moremi Game Reserve, in the Okavango Delta. We recommend it for water-based activities, strong birding and a lodge with serious design and art.
