Wilderness Little Vumbura

Vumbura concession, northern Okavango Delta

The camp sits under a canopy of old trees on a compact island looking over floodplains, and guests arrive by boat, a ride of about 15 minutes. The tented suites are spread out for privacy, each with a private veranda and en-suite bathroom, and the main area has a pool. Because the camp is small, a family or group of friends can book all of it for themselves.

Little Vumbura is open year-round, and boating runs through the year, which is not the case at many Delta camps. Mokoro trips, guided walks, catch-and-release fishing and birding sit alongside twice-daily game drives on the concession's floodplains, grassland and woodland, where buffalo herds, wild dog, lion and leopard are all seen. In a Botswana trip it can be the water and land camp, paired with a drier predator area such as Linyanti or Chitabe.

It suits couples, honeymooners, and families or friends who want a whole camp to themselves. Children must be six or older, and the camp is unfenced, so guests are escorted after dark. The flood peaks around June to August, while game viewing is generally best from about May to October. With so few tents, availability is limited, so plan well ahead for the dry season.

Wilderness Little Vumbura is a small tented camp on its own island in the private Vumbura concession, which borders Moremi Game Reserve in the northern Okavango Delta. We recommend it for boating and mokoro alongside good game drives, and it suits couples and small groups who like an intimate camp.
