DumaTau reopened in 2021 after a full rebuild on its original site overlooking Osprey Lagoon. Wilderness describes eight large tented suites on raised walkways, each with a private plunge pool, and one is set up for families. The camp shares the Osprey Retreat with Little DumaTau next door, which has a spa, gym, lap pool and deli. Guests fly in by light aircraft, about 50 minutes from Maun, then drive about half an hour.
Game drives by day and night are the main activity, with boat trips and barge outings on the lagoon, seasonal catch-and-release fishing and short walks when a qualified guide is available. June to October is the best time, when elephants gather in large numbers at permanent water. Lion, leopard, hyena and wild dog are all in the area, though the dogs are less predictable than the cats. It pairs well with a Delta camp for a wet and dry contrast in one trip.
DumaTau suits families, since children aged six and over are welcome and there is a family suite, and couples who want more facilities than most bush camps have. Families with children aged six to 12 need a private vehicle. Outside June to October, animals spread into the woodland and sightings take more work. The camp is unfenced, and there is Wi-Fi in the rooms but no phone signal.
Wilderness DumaTau is the main Wilderness camp in the private Linyanti Wildlife Reserve, rebuilt in 2021 on Osprey Lagoon between two elephant corridors. We recommend it for its dry-season elephant numbers and good wild dog country, and it suits couples and families who want space plus a spa and gym.
