Wilderness Chitabe

Chitabe concession, southeastern Okavango Delta

The camp sits on a peninsula where the Gomoti and Santantadibe channels meet, across the Gomoti from Moremi. Wilderness reopened it in 2025 after a full rebuild. The tented suites have insulated canvas walls and roofs, evaporative air coolers and shaded private decks, and the main area adds a pool, a gym and a small shop selling local crafts. The camp runs on solar power, and guests can tour the solar farm behind camp.

Morning and afternoon game drives are the main event, and night drives with spotlights are possible because this is a private concession. Seasonal guided walks, birding and helicopter flights are also offered. Wild dog research has been supported here since 1997, and Wilderness reports more than 50 individual leopards recorded on the concession. In a Botswana trip, Chitabe works as the land and predator camp, paired with a water camp in the northern or western Delta.

Chitabe suits first-time and returning safari travelers who want strong predator viewing and a comfortable room to come back to. Water activities are limited and seasonal, so we would not choose it for mokoro. Guests must be six or older and there are no family rooms, so families usually do better at Chitabe Lediba next door. The transfer from the airstrip is about 40 minutes by vehicle, and it doubles as a game drive.

Wilderness Chitabe sits on a private concession of about 22,000 hectares that borders Moremi Game Reserve in the southeastern Okavango Delta. We recommend it for game drives with a strong record for wild dog, leopard and cheetah, and it suits travelers who want a land-focused camp with plenty of comfort.
