The camp is split into two small sections, North and South, with seven tented suites each. Suites are raised on decks with views over the floodplains, and each has a private plunge pool. The lounge and dining areas are open-sided, and there is a covered sala for private meals. Getting there means a light-aircraft flight to the Vumbura airstrip, then a drive and a short boat ride when the water is up.
Days here can go either way: game drives across open plains and woodland, or mokoro and motorboat trips through the channels and papyrus. Guided walks and catch-and-release fishing are also offered. Lion, wild dog, buffalo, elephant and tsessebe are the headline animals, and sable are seen here too. It can serve as the only Delta camp in a short trip, or as one of two.
Vumbura Plains suits travelers who want both water and land time without changing camps, and families, since there is a supervised program for children aged six to 12. Because two camps share the area, it feels less remote than the smallest Delta camps. Water activities depend on the flood level, so check what will be running in your travel month.
Vumbura Plains sits in a 60,000-hectare private reserve in the far north of the Okavango Delta, bordering Moremi Game Reserve. We recommend it for its mix of land and water activities from one base, which is rare in the Delta.
