The hotel opened in 1989 and is run by the company that operates Aspen's four ski mountains. Rooms and suites have fireplaces and many look up at the mountain. Element 47 is the main restaurant and is known for its wine list, Ajax Tavern is the lunch spot at the base of the gondola, and there is a heated outdoor pool.
You ski back to the hotel at the end of the day, and the ski concierge handles equipment and lift tickets. Aspen Mountain has no beginner runs, so newer skiers take the free shuttle to Buttermilk or Snowmass. In summer the gondola runs for hiking and lunch at the top, and the town hosts the Aspen Music Festival. Aspen's airport is a few minutes away.
The Little Nell suits couples and families who want to be in town and on the mountain at once. It is expensive, especially over the holidays and in February. Rooms facing the street are livelier than those facing the slope.
The Little Nell sits at the foot of Aspen Mountain, next to the Silver Queen Gondola, in the center of Aspen. It is owned by the Aspen Skiing Company and is the classic ski-in, ski-out hotel in town.
