The hotel opened in December 2013, with interiors by the architect Jean-Michel Gathy. Rooms and suites are spacious, with fireplaces, and the spa has a long indoor pool. There are several restaurants and a large cheese cellar, and the hotel is part of the wider development of Andermatt as a year-round resort.
The gondola to the Gemsstock and the lifts of the Andermatt-Sedrun-Disentis ski area are close by, and the ski area has grown a lot in recent years. In summer there is golf, hiking and some of the great Alpine road passes, including the Furka, the Oberalp and the Gotthard. Andermatt is about an hour and a half from Zurich and sits on the Glacier Express route between Zermatt and St. Moritz.
The Chedi suits families and couples who want a full-service hotel with a big spa and easy rail access. It is a large hotel with a modern style, so it feels less like an old Alpine inn. The village is small and quieter in the evenings than Zermatt or St. Moritz.
The Chedi Andermatt is a large, modern hotel in the village of Andermatt, in the Gotthard region of central Switzerland. It mixes Alpine chalet style with Asian design, and it is close to both the railway station and the lifts.
