Tawana

Gomoti River, southeastern Moremi Game Reserve

Eight suites, including two family suites, sit along the Gomoti River and are linked by raised boardwalks that are step-free to most of the camp. Each suite has a long viewing deck, a lounge, a sala and a plunge pool. The main area has a 16-meter lap pool, a gym, a small spa, a library, a walk-in wine cellar and a pizza oven. The camp opened in 2024.

Days revolve around morning and afternoon game drives across grassland, floodplain, pans and mopane woodland. Wild dog and cheetah hunt on the plains, hippos use the deeper pools of the Gomoti, and elephants graze near the dining area. The flooded-channel scenery is at its best from about June to August. In a Botswana trip, Tawana is the comfortable land camp, best paired with a water camp for mokoro and boating.

Tawana suits couples, families with children over six, and anyone who wants plenty of space and a spa between drives. Family suites have a separate sleeping area, but there are no children's facilities and the boardwalks are raised, so younger children need watching. The caveat is that this is not a water camp, and walking around the lodge is not allowed, so add another camp for mokoro or walking.

Tawana is a Natural Selection camp on the Gomoti River in a quiet southeastern corner of Moremi Game Reserve, developed with Tawana Moremi, paramount chief of the Batawana. We recommend it for spacious suites and good predator viewing on the floodplains, and it suits couples and families who want a high level of comfort on a land-focused stay.
