The St. Regis Florence

Piazza Ognissanti, Florence, Italy

The palazzo was built for the Giuntini family around 1400, and tradition credits its design to Filippo Brunelleschi. It became a hotel in the 19th century and was later restored as The St. Regis. Rooms and suites are decorated in a traditional Florentine style, with frescoes, silk fabrics and antique furniture, and many look over the Arno.

The Winter Garden, an Art Deco space under a glass roof, holds the restaurant and bar, and Café Ginori serves lighter meals. There is a spa and a fitness center. The Ponte Vecchio, the Uffizi and the shops of Via de' Tornabuoni are a short walk along the river, and Santa Maria Novella station is close by for trains to Rome, Milan and Venice. Tuscany's hill towns and vineyards are an easy day out by car.

The St. Regis suits couples and families who like a formal, traditional hotel. The decor is ornate, which some travelers love and others find heavy. The streets along the Arno carry traffic, and rooms facing the river can be busier than those facing the courtyard.

The St. Regis Florence is set in a Renaissance palazzo on Piazza Ognissanti, on the bank of the Arno. It suits travelers who want a classic, richly decorated hotel within walking distance of the Ponte Vecchio, the Uffizi and Via de' Tornabuoni.
