Sasakwa sits on Sasakwa Hill in Singita's Grumeti Reserve, a private area of about 350,000 acres on the western side of the Serengeti. The main lodge is built like an Edwardian manor, with stone walls, deep verandas and long views over the plains. Guests stay in cottages of one to four bedrooms, each with its own plunge pool, and there is a separate Hillside Suite for two.
Days run around open-vehicle game drives with a guide and tracker, and the reserve also allows guided walks. The migration usually passes through Grumeti around June and July, and resident game stays along the river later in the dry season. The lodge has a spa, gym, tennis court and wine cellar. It sits close to the Sasakwa airstrip, so it works well as a fly-in Serengeti stop.
Sasakwa suits couples and families with older children who want a polished, private safari with room to spread out. Children aged 10 and over are welcome. It is a formal, hotel-like lodge, so anyone after a simple tented camp feel may prefer somewhere smaller. It is also outside the main migration window for much of the year, when the experience depends on resident wildlife.
Sasakwa is a grand, Edwardian-style manor house on a hill above the Grumeti Reserve, and we recommend it for its private cottages, strong guiding and the freedom of a private reserve. It suits travelers who want space, comfort and fewer vehicles at sightings.
