Jim Boyce built the original lodge in 1942. It was later expanded by the Schwarz family, who brought in European-trained chefs and built up a large wine cellar. In 2021 it was bought by the O'Connor family's Canadian Rocky Mountain Resorts, which kept the hotel's management and staff. Rooms are in a classic mountain style, many with fireplaces, and there is a spa with an indoor pool.
The Lake Louise Ski Resort is a few minutes' drive away, and Banff Sunshine and Mt. Norquay are on the same pass. In winter there is skating on Lake Louise and cross-country skiing. In summer the hotel is a base for hiking around Lake Louise and Moraine Lake and for drives on the Icefields Parkway.
The Post suits couples and food lovers who want a quiet base in the mountains. The village of Lake Louise is very small, so evenings are spent at the hotel. It is not on the slopes or the lakeshore, so you will drive or take a shuttle to both.
Post Hotel & Spa is a timber lodge in the village of Lake Louise, beside the Pipestone River in Banff National Park. It is a smaller, quieter choice than the big railway hotels, and it is known for its food and wine.
