The villa was built in the late 1700s for Count Andrea Lucini Passalacqua, with frescoes by Andrea Appiani, and the composer Vincenzo Bellini was among its guests. It opened as a hotel in 2022 with 24 rooms and suites across three buildings: the main villa, the Palazz in the old stables, and the Casa al Lago by the shore. Seven acres of terraced gardens hold olive groves, roses and a pool terrace below the villa.
An elevator runs from the house down to the dock, where the hotel's boats take you out on the lake. Como is about 15 minutes by car and Milan Malpensa airport about 35 miles away, so a private transfer is the easy way in. It pairs well with Milan, Portofino or the Dolomites.
Passalacqua suits couples and small groups who want privacy and a residential feel more than a big resort. Rates are very high, and with so few rooms it fills early. The hotel closes from early January to around March, and late autumn is too cool for the pool or the lake.
Passalacqua is an 18th-century villa in Moltrasio turned into a 24-room hotel by the De Santis family, who also run Grand Hotel Tremezzo. It feels like a private house on the lake, with terraced gardens running down to the water.
