One&Only Palmilla

San José del Cabo, Los Cabos, Mexico

Palmilla opened in the 1950s as one of the first resorts at the tip of Baja, and the original Spanish-colonial style is still at its heart, with whitewashed walls, red-tiled roofs and a small chapel used for weddings. Rooms and suites are spread across the hillside and gardens with views of the Sea of Cortez, and many have their own plunge pools.

Its beach is one of the few on the Los Cabos corridor that is often calm enough for swimming and snorkeling. There is golf on the course next door, a large spa, a kids' club, and restaurants that range from Mexican to Japanese. Boat trips run to Land's End, and from about December to March humpback whales pass close to shore.

Palmilla suits families, multigenerational groups and couples who want an established resort with good food and plenty to do. It is a large property, with many guests in high season, and the corridor around it is busy. As elsewhere in Los Cabos, late summer and early autumn are hot and fall in the hurricane season.

One&Only Palmilla is one of the oldest resorts in Los Cabos, on a point near San José del Cabo with a beach that is often calm enough to swim. Whitewashed buildings and gardens run down to the sea. It suits families and couples who want a classic Mexican resort with full service.
