The camp sits on the Zambezi in the Nyamatusi Wilderness Concession in the remote eastern part of Mana Pools, reached by road from the Mana Pools airstrip. There are six tented suites under the trees, each with air conditioning, indoor and outdoor showers, a private deck and its own plunge pool. The two-storey main area has a lounge, bar, library and pool, and the camp runs on solar power and was built with thatch and local materials.
Walking is the focus. Guides lead walks across the floodplain and track African wild dogs when packs are in the area, and canoe trips leave from camp to explore the river, side channels and pools, with hippos and crocodiles close by. Game drives, fishing and birding fill the rest of the day. Give it at least three nights, and pair it with Hwange for bigger herds at waterholes.
Nyamatusi suits active travelers who want to spend time on foot and on the water in a quieter part of the park. The camp takes guests aged 12 and up, and the minimum age for walking safaris is 16, so it is not a family choice for younger children. The camp is unfenced and guests are escorted after dark.
Nyamatusi Camp is African Bush Camps' river camp in the remote eastern part of Mana Pools, looking across the Zambezi to the escarpment in Zambia. It is a strong choice for walking and canoeing, with plunge pools and air conditioning to get you through the hot afternoons.
