Time + Tide Nsolo

South Luangwa National Park

Nsolo stands on a bend of the Luwi River, which is dry for much of the year and becomes a path for elephants and lions moving through the area. The five rooms sit on raised wooden platforms with open-air bathrooms, outdoor showers and private decks looking into the bush. Power is solar, Wi-Fi is in the rooms only, and the camp is about two hours by game drive from Mfuwe Airport. It is named after the honeyguide.

Walking is the main event here, alongside morning and afternoon drives and the Time + Tide sleepout. Nsolo sits on the Time + Tide walking route: Luwi is about 9.5 km away, two and a half to three hours on foot, with Mchenja about 12 km and Kakuli about 14 km. A wild dog den is often found nearby. Pairing Nsolo with Luwi and then a river camp such as Kakuli or Mchenja makes a good walking-focused week.

Nsolo suits fit, curious travelers who would rather spend the morning on foot than in a vehicle, and repeat visitors to South Luangwa who want a quieter corner of the park. Children of all ages are accepted, though walking safaris suit older children and adults best. It opens only from 20 May to 15 November, and its simple, open-air style will not suit anyone looking for lodge comforts.

Nsolo is a remote bushcamp on a bend of the seasonal Luwi River, and we recommend it for walking safaris in a quiet part of the park far from other camps. It suits travelers who are happy on foot and want a simple, wild camp rather than a lodge.
