North Island lies north of Silhouette, a short helicopter flight from Mahé. It has 11 villas, one of them larger than the rest, each built from local stone, timber and thatch with its own pool. Since the late 1990s the island has run a rewilding project that has cleared invasive plants and animals and brought back native birds, including the Seychelles white-eye.
There is no set schedule. You can snorkel and dive the granite reefs, go out for game fishing, walk to the island's lookout points, or spend the day on one of the four beaches, which you often have to yourself. Hawksbill and green turtles nest on the beaches, and the conservation team often takes guests out on monitoring walks.
North Island suits couples, honeymooners and families taking over a villa or the whole island. It is among the most expensive stays in the Indian Ocean. Seychelles flights connect through Nairobi, Johannesburg, Addis Ababa and the Gulf hubs, and the helicopter transfer adds cost. Seas on some beaches are rougher in the trade-wind months.
North Island is a private granite island in the Seychelles with just 11 villas, a long rewilding program and four beaches. It is the Seychelles stay we suggest for real privacy, a strong conservation story and a slow, barefoot pace after a safari.
