The camp has only a handful of tented suites on raised decking, each with a private plunge pool and sun deck, on an island among lagoons, channels, floodplains and woodland. It opened in 2023. Scheduled light aircraft land at the camp's own airstrip, a short drive from the island. The camp is unfenced, and guests are escorted after dark, as at most Delta camps.
Game drives run in the morning and late afternoon, and night drives are offered. Boating is possible for most of the year, and mokoro trips are best from June to September when the water is highest. Catch-and-release fishing is closed in January and February. Hot-air ballooning and helicopter flights, including trips to the Tsodilo Hills rock art, cost extra. In a Botswana trip it can be a water and land camp in one.
North Island suits couples, honeymooners and small groups who can take most of the camp. More than 350 bird species have been recorded in the area, including slaty egret, Pel's fishing owl and African skimmer, so birders do well. The caveat is that with so few rooms, availability is limited, and Natural Selection does not publish a children's policy for the camp, so families should check with us first.
North Island Okavango is a very small Natural Selection camp on an island in the upstream, northern part of the Okavango Delta, northwest of Duba Plains and Vumbura. We recommend it because the floodwater arrives here first, so water activities run for most of the year alongside game drives, and it suits couples and small groups who want privacy.
