The hotel opened as the Mont Cervin in 1852. The tourism pioneer Alexander Seiler bought it in 1867. Today it is one of the largest hotels in the village, with rooms and suites ranging from classic Alpine to contemporary, many with views toward the Matterhorn, and a large spa.
In winter, the Gornergrat railway and the Sunnegga funicular are a short walk away, and the lifts up to the Matterhorn Glacier Paradise and over the border to Cervinia are a little further on. In summer, the same lifts take you to the high walking trails, and the Glacier Express leaves from the station nearby. Zermatt pairs well with St. Moritz by train or with a few nights at Lake Geneva.
Mont Cervin Palace suits families and anyone who wants a traditional grand hotel in the center of the village. It is a large hotel and feels busy in peak weeks, and the main street is lively in the evenings. Like most Zermatt hotels, it closes between the winter and summer seasons, so check dates before you plan.
Mont Cervin Palace is a grand hotel on Bahnhofstrasse, Zermatt's car-free main street. It opened in 1852 and passed to the Seiler family, Zermatt's early hotel pioneers, in 1867. It is a short walk from the station and the lifts.
