Mokolwane

Xudum concession, southwestern Okavango Delta

The camp sits on a tree island among Mokolwane palms, looking over the Matsebi river system. There are seven raised canvas tents on stilts: six face the floodplain, and one family unit in the woodland sleeps four. Rooms are simple and functional, with ceiling fans rather than air conditioning, so they can be warm from September to November. The concession around it is very large and privately held, with floodplains, lagoons, riverine woodland and mopane forest.

Day and night drives are the main activity, with mokoro trips through the channels when the water allows, boating, guided walks and scenic helicopter flights at extra cost. Natural Selection reports one of the highest leopard densities recorded in Africa here, and a large lion pride and two wild dog packs have been seen often. Elephant numbers climb into the thousands at certain times of year. It works as a predator-focused Delta stop alongside a Linyanti or Selinda camp.

Mokolwane suits wildlife-focused travelers and families who can book the whole camp. Children aged six and over are welcome, and families with children aged six to nine need a private vehicle and guide at extra cost. Meals are usually a single plated option, so flag dietary needs early, and Wi-Fi is in the rooms only. A separate sister camp, Mokolwane Plains, is scheduled to open nearby in July 2027.

Mokolwane is a small, informal Natural Selection camp in the private Xudum concession in the southwestern Okavango Delta. We recommend it for its leopard and predator viewing, and it suits travelers who care more about wildlife and guiding than about luxury.
