Varty Camp is the oldest and largest of Londolozi's camps, built where the Varty family started in 1926. The thatched main lodge is raised on decks under big trees, looking over the Sand River. Guests stay in chalets with their own plunge pools, and there is a larger shared pool. The camp is unfenced, so rangers walk you to your room after dark. Londolozi has its own airstrip about five minutes away.
Londolozi is known above all for its leopards, which have been followed and photographed here for generations. Days are built around two game drives, with bush walks, a gym, a library and the wellness center for down time. Fedair runs daily nonstop flights from Johannesburg's OR Tambo to the Londolozi airstrip, so it slots in neatly after Cape Town via Johannesburg.
Varty is the Londolozi camp we point families toward: children are welcome and Londolozi runs a Cubs program for ages 6 to 16. It also suits first-timers who like a bit of company around the fire. Couples who want more privacy may prefer Londolozi's smaller camps, such as Tree Camp. Like the rest of the Greater Kruger, it is in a malaria area.
Varty Camp is Londolozi's original camp, on the site where the Varty family first set up in 1926 above the Sand River. We recommend it for families and first-time safari travelers who want famous leopard viewing in a relaxed, social camp.
