La Residence sits on a 30-acre estate on the edge of Franschhoek, surrounded by vineyards and mountains. The hotel suites are large, around 90 to 100 square meters, with valley, mountain or vineyard views. Separate Vineyard Suites of one to three bedrooms have their own gardens, and the bigger ones have private pools. Franschhoek House is a six-bedroom villa for groups.
Franschhoek is one of the easiest Winelands towns to enjoy, with tasting rooms and restaurants a short drive from the hotel. The estate is a working farm that supplies the kitchen, and there is a pool and plenty of space to do nothing. Two nights here fit well between Cape Town and the flight to the bush, giving you a slower middle to the trip.
The hotel suites suit couples, and are reserved for guests over 10. Families with younger children should book the Vineyard Suites or Franschhoek House, where all ages are welcome. It is a small hotel, so the best suites go early in summer. You will want a driver for wine tasting days.
