Kapamba

South Luangwa National Park

Kapamba is on the banks of the Kapamba River in the remote southern part of South Luangwa, inside The Bushcamp Company's own section of around 140,000 acres. Its four stone-and-thatch chalets are raised on decks and open-fronted, with wrought-iron shutters, private verandahs and indoor and outdoor showers. Two of the chalets have raised star beds for sleeping out under the sky.

Walking safaris, day and night drives and time on the river shape a stay here. Sundowners, lunch and dinner are served in the Kapamba River itself, which makes for memorable evenings. Kapamba links on foot to Bilimungwe, and with Zungulila near the head of the same river, it fits well toward the end of a walking itinerary through the company's camps. Transfers from Mfuwe Lodge take three and a half to four hours.

Kapamba suits couples who want space, quiet and a night on a star bed. Children must be 12 or older. It is open from 1 May to 1 November. It is one of the furthest camps from Mfuwe, so it works best as part of a longer stay rather than a short add-on, and the long transfer should be planned into the day.

Kapamba sits on the Kapamba River in the remote south of South Luangwa, and we recommend it for its open-fronted chalets, star beds and meals served in the river. It suits couples who want quiet and space at the far end of a bushcamp trip.
