Kanga Camp

Kanga Pan, inland Mana Pools National Park

Kanga is in a private concession within Mana Pools, away from the Zambezi and the other camps. The six tents, including a family tent and a honeymoon tent with a rolltop bath on its deck, have floor-to-ceiling mesh windows, private raised verandas, solar power and outdoor showers. The main lounge and dining area overlook the pan, with a bar, plunge pool and firepit.

Because Kanga Pan is the main water source for a wide radius in the dry season, elephants, wild dogs, leopards and kudu come to drink in front of camp. A photographic hide below the deck puts you at eye level with them. Activities are morning and afternoon game drives, guided walks, birding and spotlighting at the pan at night. It pairs naturally with a few nights at a river camp like Nyamatusi.

Kanga suits photographers and anyone who likes sitting quietly and letting wildlife arrive, as well as guests who want a camp where they rarely see another vehicle. It takes guests aged 12 and up. The camp closes in the rainy season when the pan overflows, and there is no river activity from camp, so canoeing means pairing it with a river camp.

Kanga Camp sits inland in Mana Pools on Kanga Pan, which in the dry season is the only water for miles around, so much of the wildlife comes to you. It is a good counterpoint to a river camp, with walking, game drives and a hide right under the main deck.
