JOALI opened in 2018 on Muravandhoo, a lush island in Raa Atoll in the north of the Maldives, reached by seaplane from Malé. The resort calls itself art-immersive: installations by invited artists are placed around the island, and there is an art studio where guests can work with them. Villas range from one-bedroom water villas to larger beach residences, most with their own pools.
The house reef is good for snorkeling straight from the beach, and the resort runs a reef restoration program that guests can join. There is diving, sailing and excursions to sandbanks, a spa and wellness program, and restaurants that include Japanese-Peruvian and Italian dining. The Muramas kids' club is well set up for families.
JOALI suits couples, honeymooners and families who like design and a quieter island. A sister island nearby, JOALI BEING, is dedicated to wellness. As with any Maldives resort, the seaplane flies only in daylight, and the wetter months from May to November bring more rain and wind, though often good diving.
JOALI Maldives is a design-led resort on Muravandhoo Island in Raa Atoll, built around commissioned art and a strong house reef. Villas sit over the water and along the beach, most with private pools. It suits couples and families who want a calm, stylish Maldives stay.
