Il San Pietro di Positano

Positano, Amalfi Coast, Italy

The Cinque family opened Il San Pietro in 1970 and still runs it. The hotel is built down the cliff from a small chapel on the coast road, about two kilometers from the center of Positano. Every room has a sea view and a terrace, and the hillside is planted with bougainvillea, lemons and a kitchen garden that supplies the restaurants.

A lift through the rock takes you down to the hotel's own small beach and jetty, with a tennis court and a sea-level restaurant. The hotel runs a boat to Positano, and from the jetty you can go out for a day to Capri, the Li Galli islands or the coast toward Amalfi. Ravello and its gardens are an easy drive.

Il San Pietro suits couples and anyone who prefers quiet to being in the middle of town. Being outside Positano is the trade-off: you rely on the shuttle or the boat to get in. The hotel is seasonal, generally open from spring to autumn, and summer dates book months ahead.

Il San Pietro di Positano is a family-run hotel built into the cliff just east of Positano, with terraces covered in flowers and a lift down through the rock to its own beach. It is our choice on the Amalfi Coast for calm, privacy and a sea view from every room.
