Forestis

Palmschoss, Brixen, South Tyrol, Italy

The original wooden house dates from the early 20th century, when the Austro-Hungarian authorities planned a sanatorium on the Plose, and it later served as a retreat for clergy. The Hinteregger family bought it and first ran it as a hotel in 2010, and it reopened in its current form on 20 July 2020. It has 62 suites, split between the historic building and three modern towers, and a spa of about 2,000 m² with an indoor pool linked to an outdoor pool.

A forest path leads from the ski room to the piste of the Plose ski area, which has about 45 km of runs, most above 2,000 meters. The larger Dolomiti Superski areas of Val Gardena and Alta Badia are within driving distance. In summer the hotel is a base for hiking in the Puez-Geisler Nature Park, part of the Dolomites UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Forestis suits couples who want rest, a strong spa and quiet surroundings. The design is minimal and the mood is calm, so it is not for travelers who want a lively village. The Plose is a modest ski area, so serious skiers may want to drive to the bigger circuits on some days.

Forestis is a wellness hotel at about 1,800 meters on the Plose mountain above Brixen, in South Tyrol. It looks across to the Dolomites and is ski-in, ski-out through the forest.
