The hotel began as a small wooden chalet and was rebuilt and enlarged over the following decades into the large lakeside hotel it is today. Rooms and suites vary a lot, and the lake-view rooms are the ones to ask for. There is a spa, an indoor pool and several restaurants.
In winter the lake freezes for skating, there is cross-country skiing and snowshoeing from the door, and the Lake Louise Ski Resort is a short shuttle ride away. In summer you can canoe on the lake and hike to the Lake Agnes and Plain of Six Glaciers teahouses. Calgary airport is about two hours by road.
The Chateau suits families and first-time visitors who want to wake up on the lake. In summer the lakeshore is very busy with day visitors. It is a large hotel, and the experience depends heavily on the room, so we book the view carefully.
Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise stands on the shore of Lake Louise, facing the Victoria Glacier across the water. The Canadian Pacific Railway first built a chalet here in 1890, and the hotel has grown on the site since.
