The camp sits among palm islands, floodplains and woodland, raised on wooden decking under old trees. Great Plains lists five suites, each with an indoor lounge, a bathroom with indoor and outdoor showers, air conditioning and a private veranda with a pool. Guests can borrow professional cameras, lenses and binoculars. Flights land at the private Omdop airstrip, a few minutes' drive from camp.
Duba is best known for lions that hunt buffalo, and in recent years the prides also take red lechwe, which gather here in large numbers. Activities include game drives in open vehicles, boating, mokoro trips, bush walks and seasonal fishing. From about May to September, high water means a short boat ride to reach the vehicles. It fits a Botswana trip as a predator-focused camp with water options.
Duba suits photographers and travelers who want to spend long sightings with big cats. It is small and expensive, and it has no zebra or impala to speak of, so it should be paired with another camp if you want a wider range of plains game. Children aged six to 12 need a private vehicle, and the camp is unfenced.
Duba Plains Camp is a Great Plains Conservation camp in the private 33,000-hectare Duba concession in the northern Okavango Delta. We recommend it for its lion and buffalo, made famous by Dereck and Beverly Joubert's films.
