Duba Explorers Camp

Duba concession, northern Okavango Delta

The camp sits on an island shaded by jackalberry, leadwood and sycamore fig trees, looking across permanent floodplain broken by grassland and woodland. Five canvas tents stand on raised decks, each with a writing desk, a private veranda, an en-suite bathroom and air conditioning over the bed. It is part of Great Plains' Explorer Collection and shares the Duba concession with Duba Plains Camp.

Game drives in open vehicles, guided walks and birding run through the year, with mokoro and boat trips on the Ngoga River system when water levels allow, and seasonal catch-and-release fishing. Elephant, buffalo and red lechwe are present all year, along with lion, leopard and wild dog, while zebra, wildebeest, kudu and tsessebe move through seasonally. In a Botswana trip it works as the northern Delta stop, with both land and water options.

Duba Explorers suits travelers who want a small camp in prime lion country and are happy with a classic tented feel. Inter-camp flights are included for stays of two nights or more. The caveat is that the water activities depend on the flood, so check your dates, and the Duba area is light on plains game for part of the year, so it is worth pairing with a drier camp such as Chitabe.

Duba Explorers Camp is a Great Plains Conservation tented camp on an island in the northeast corner of the private Duba concession in the northern Okavango Delta. We recommend it for the Duba area's lion and buffalo with land and water activities, and it suits travelers who want a small, remote camp in a traditional tented style.
