The hotel opened in 2006 as the first Cheval Blanc, the hotel brand of the LVMH group. It is a contemporary chalet with rooms and suites, a spa, a kids' club and several restaurants, and art throughout. Staff handle the ski room, equipment and instructors, so you walk out of the hotel and onto the piste.
Courchevel is part of Les 3 Vallées, one of the largest linked ski areas in the Alps, with Méribel and Val Thorens reachable on skis. Courchevel 1850 is the most upscale of Courchevel's villages, with designer shops and many restaurants. Geneva is about two and a half to three hours by road, and the Courchevel altiport takes small aircraft and helicopters.
Cheval Blanc suits families and couples who want a full-service ski hotel with everything arranged. It is very expensive, especially over Christmas, New Year and February. The hotel is open only from about December to April, and Courchevel 1850 has a glamorous, busy scene that is not for everyone.
Cheval Blanc Courchevel is LVMH's ski hotel in the Jardin Alpin, the wooded quarter of Courchevel 1850. It is ski-in, ski-out, with highly personal service, and it opens only for the winter season.
