Chem Chem sits in the Burunge Wildlife Management Area, a corridor that links Tarangire and Lake Manyara national parks. It has seven tented suites and one family unit, raised and spaced apart along wooden walkways among the palms, with a main building for meals, a bar and a library. In May 2026 it became part of Auberge Safari, and it now trades as Chem Chem Lodge, Auberge Safari.
Game drives go into Tarangire, which is at its best in the dry season when elephants gather along the river, and to Lake Manyara. On the concession itself you can do guided walks, and the lodge also offers cultural visits and sundowners near the lake. It is about two hours by road from Arusha, which makes it an easy first stop on a northern safari.
Chem Chem suits couples and families who prefer a slower safari with time on foot. It is quiet and low-key, so travelers who want lots of facilities may find it simple. The property is unfenced and staff escort guests after dark. The lodge closes each year from 1 April to 14 May.
Chem Chem Lodge is a small tented lodge in a private wildlife corridor between Tarangire and Lake Manyara, and we recommend it for its walking safaris and unhurried pace. It suits travelers who want Tarangire's elephants without staying in the busy part of the park.
