The lodge is built in the woodland on the edge of the Delta. Its main building takes the shape of a pangolin, with a curved roof of wooden shingles laid like scales. There are twelve air-conditioned suites, including a two-bedroom family suite, and each has a private plunge pool. Guests fly to the Chitabe airstrip and drive about 45 minutes to the lodge.
This is a land camp. Game drives run in the morning and afternoon and continue after dark, with lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, wild dog and spotted hyena in the area. Guided bush walks and helicopter flights are also available. In a Botswana trip it works as the game-drive camp, after a few nights at a water-based camp deeper in the Delta.
Sandibe suits families, thanks to &Beyond's WILDchild program and the family suite, and anyone who wants a design-led lodge with strong wildlife. It is not a place for mokoro or boat trips, so plan water time elsewhere. Bush walks have a minimum age of 16, and families with children under six must book a private vehicle.
&Beyond Sandibe Okavango Safari Lodge sits in a private concession of about 22,500 hectares that borders Moremi Game Reserve. We recommend it for game drives with good predator sightings, and for a main lodge shaped like a pangolin.
