Mnemba is a tiny private island, less than a mile around, off the northeast coast of Zanzibar. andBeyond runs it as a single lodge of 12 beachfront bandas with thatched roofs, for no more than 24 guests. Non-guests cannot land on the island, and it sits inside the Mnemba Island Marine Conservation Area, surrounded by a coral atoll.
Days are about the water. You can snorkel the house reef straight from the beach, kayak or paddleboard, dive if you are PADI certified, and take a sundowner dhow trip. Green turtles nest on the beaches, and dolphins are often seen around the atoll. Getting there takes about 90 minutes by road from Zanzibar airport or Stone Town, then a short boat ride, landing on the beach.
Mnemba suits couples and honeymooners above all. Children are allowed but limited in number, so it is not built for families. There is no jetty, so you wade ashore, and boats do not run after dark, which shapes flight times at both ends. If you plan to travel in April or May, check opening dates with us first.
andBeyond Mnemba Island is a small, barefoot beach lodge on a private island off Zanzibar, and we recommend it as a quiet place to finish a safari. It suits couples who want reef snorkeling and real privacy after the game drives.
